Hey, I'm Te Huinga
CO FOUNDER TE REO EXPERT AND MENTOR
Tēnā koutou katoa, I'm Te Huinga Sun, co-founder of Te Kakano. My journey is a tapestry of Maori and Chinese heritage, with roots stretching from Pawarenga and Rotorua to Guangzhou, China. After completing my Bachelor of Education specializing in Te Reo Maori, I spent eight years teaching and leading in Otara, shaping educational programs that resonate with our learners' hearts and minds. My passion for our culture and language deepens with each day, especially as I guide and connect with families and students at Te Kakano. Here, we embark on a shared journey, exploring the rich landscape of Te Reo Maori, nurtured by our ancestral wisdom and the vibrant stories of our people.

CO-FOUNDER, MARKETING & SALES
I am the co-founder of Te Kakano, overseeing sales and marketing, while my cousin skillfully mentors our students. Together, we nurture our community. My journey to Te Kakano was born from a longing for a Maori community where my limited knowledge of Te Ao Maori wasn't a barrier, but a starting point for growth. I've encountered many Maori who share this craving – a desire to explore our roots, our ancestry, and our mythology, and to understand how they're all interwoven. Having once been the student who felt lost and out of place, I harboured an intention: to create a safe space where like-minded individuals could connect, learn, and grow. And here we are. Welcome to Te Kakano – it's truly my pleasure to have you with us.
