It embodies the idea that every learner, regardless of their current knowledge or connection to Māoridom, has the potential to grow, flourish, and deepen their understanding and connection to the Māori culture.
Here at Te Kakano we aim to be a bridge for individuals to the world of Māoridom. Meet Te Huinga
YOUR TE REO EXPERT AND MENTOR
From the nurturing guidance of her kuia (grandmother), Te Huinga was immersed in the old ways of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga from a tender age. This foundational experience, enriched by the wisdom of her kuia, ignited a passion that led her to pursue a degree in Māori Teaching. Today, she stands as a linguistic maestro, fluent in an astounding 26 dialects, ensuring that the nuances and depth of each are preserved and passed on.
But Te Huinga is not just a guardian of traditions; she's a bridge to the future. As a proud Māori and a dedicated school teacher by trade, she seamlessly blends the ancient wisdom of Māoridom with contemporary teaching methods. Her vision for 'Te Kakano' is rooted in her personal journey: to ensure every learner, whether new or reconnecting, experiences the profound beauty and depth of Māoridom, just as she did under the watchful eyes of her beloved kuia.

DIRECTOR OF SALES AND MARKETING
Kia ora! I'm Tui, the driving force behind 'Te Kakano's sales and marketing, and more importantly, a passionate seeker of Māoridom. My journey began with a deep craving: to find a Māori community where I, and others like me, wouldn't be judged for the fragments of knowledge we held about Te Ao Māori.
I've walked the path of feeling lost, of yearning to understand more about our roots, our ancestry, our rich mythology, and the intricate web that binds them all. I've sat in classes, feeling out of place, wishing for a space where I could learn without judgment. That yearning planted a seed in my heart, an intention to create a sanctuary for individuals like myself.
With immense joy and the invaluable partnership of my dear cousin, Te Huinga, that seed has now blossomed into 'Te Kakano'. It's more than just a school; it's a realization of my dream—a safe haven for all to connect, learn, and grow.
